Wear Wool, Not Waste – The Woolmark Company
Upon initial observation of the advertisement, I required some time to grasp the unfolding events. The narrative focuses on individuals hastily fleeing from a zombie invasion of obsolete synthetic garments that continue to plague our globe. Near the conclusion of the campaign, a sentence states, “Every synthetic garment ever produced still exists in some form” Permeating our globe. Wool is a natural, renewable, biodegradable, and the most textile fiber. The advertising concludes with its tagline.
The nonverbal aspects used in the advertisement include the movement of the clothing as it traverses the city, resembling a zombie apocalypse. I appreciate that the delivery aims t depict a zombie apocalypse, which may signify the prevalence of synthetic clothes in society. The color grading and palette also evoke the emotions and sensations associated with experiencing a zombie apocalypse. Initially, it was dark and somber, but ultimately, it became radiant, illuminated by the shining sun and vibrant nature.
The style of this advertising is unmistakably apparent. A synthetic clothing apocalypse with wool serving as the ‘antidote’ for a safe and secure environment. According to John Roberta, Managing Director of Woolmark stated, “Wear Wool, Not Waste is not merely a marketing initiative; it is a pressing appeal to both consumers and the broader industry to reassess fiber garments.’ The message is to reduce or preferably cease the usage of synthetic fiber clothing and transition to garments made from wool.
